From PoCo to Port Moody: Our Journey
Every journey has a beginning. Ours started in 2019 in Port Coquitlam (PoCo), when Erin Scarlett and Mike Arboit – a wife-and-husband duo with a passion for community – quit their day jobs (with a nudge from Erin’s mom, Roberta) to launch The Fountainhead Network (TFN). They envisioned an affordable coworking space and media studio where creators and entrepreneurs could dream big together. By early 2020, TFN had secured its first location and opened its doors... just weeks before the world changed.
Then the pandemic hit. Overnight, TFN’s grand plans for lively in-person events had to pivot. Instead of giving up, Erin and Mike got creative. They built podcast studios and shifted to helping local businesses produce digital content. Through countless Zoom calls and virtual meet-ups, they kept the spark alive. Erin became a formidable community networker, connecting people despite the lockdowns, while Mike interviewed over 100 local businesses to share their stories and lend support. It wasn’t easy – at one point they even sold their family home to keep TFN afloat – but their resolve was unshakeable. TFN not only survived; it earned awards, a loyal membership, and a reputation as a beacon of resilience.
By late 2023, however, rising rents threatened to uproot TFN from PoCo. Enter Chris Peacock, a tech entrepreneur-turned-community builder, and founder of Site B in Port Moody. Site B was an expansive, creative event space and cowork hub – complete with an Airstream trailer meeting room and even a hot-pink 1979 Trans Am in the middle of the floor (because why not?). Chris had launched Site B in 2022 with the same mission as TFN: to bring people together in new and exciting ways. When Erin and Mike met Chris, sparks flew – their visions for a thriving community space were perfectly aligned. By early 2024, TFN packed up and moved into Site B’s warehouse on Murray Street, Port Moody, marking the start of an incredible partnership. The result was electric: TFN’s coworking energy breathed new life into Site B, and Site B’s creative venue gave TFN room to grow. Since joining forces at Site B, TFN has been bigger than ever, with momentum still building. This chapter of our journey taught us that with adaptability, collaboration, and a little bit of bravery, we can overcome anything.
Community at the Core of Everything
One reason this merger feels so natural is that all four businesses have always put community first. Though each started in a different place, we were all heading toward the same goal: creating spaces where people connect, create, and feel at home. Here’s how each of our four partners has been serving the community:
-
The Fountainhead Network (TFN): An inspiring coworking and media space founded on the belief that when creative minds share a home, magic happens. TFN has been the launchpad for countless local entrepreneurs, podcasters, and artists – a place where members swap ideas, skills, and encouragement daily. From day one, TFN’s mantra has been about empowering others and growing together (even when we had to do it over Zoom).
-
Site B Community Space: A one-of-a-kind event venue and coworking clubhouse envisioned by Chris Peacock. Site B was created as a “blank canvas” for Port Moody’s community – a place equally suited for tech meetups, art exhibits, craft markets, wedding receptions, or even pro wrestling shows (yes, we’ve hosted live wrestling at Site B!). With its open layout and quirky touches (did we mention the airstream meeting room?), Site B has been a creative playground where the community’s ideas drive the space. It’s hosted everything from salsa dance nights to long-table dinners, proving that bringing people together is what it does best.
-
Brave Brewing Company: A craft brewery with a heart as bold as its name. Brave was born in late 2022 when Chris Peacock acquired and reimagined a struggling brewery (the former Bakery Brewing) rather than let it fade away. Together with Greg (Brave’s co-founder and brewing operations lead), Chris launched Brave with a mission to celebrate everyday courage. The brewery’s ethos is all about giving back and inspiring acts of bravery – they even pledged 1% of profits, product, time and equity to local non-profits. Brave’s Murray Street taproom has quickly become a local hangout and networking hub, known for its warm vibe and fun twists like vinyl record nights (buy a record, and they’ll play it on the spot!). It’s a place where pints, ideas, and friendships flow freely.
-
Twin Sails Brewing: A pioneer of Port Moody’s “Brewers Row,” Twin Sails was founded in 2015 by twin brothers (hence the name) and has since become a BC craft beer icon. Twin Sails built its reputation on boundary-pushing IPAs and a laid-back, come-as-you-are tasting room that’s often buzzing with families, friends, and even their dogs. Located just steps from Rocky Point Park (food truck heaven), Twin Sails has always been more than just a brewery – it’s a community hub where neighbors meet up after a hike or bike ride for a well-earned beer. Over the years, Twin Sails has hosted countless charity events, beer launches, and collabs with other breweries, all with the goal of keeping the local beer scene vibrant. Their secret? Stay creative, stay approachable, and treat everyone like a regular.
Despite their different industries, TFN, Site B, Brave, and Twin Sails share a common DNA: a love for the community and a passion for innovation. Each has been carving out spaces for people to connect – whether over a business idea, a stout beer, or a dance floor – and now, as one family, we’re multiplying that impact.
Why Merge? Rising to Challenges Together
If you’ve been following trends, you know the past couple of years haven’t been all sunshine and rainbows for small businesses – especially in craft brewing. The industry has faced some headwinds: rising costs of ingredients and operations, shifting consumer tastes, and the tail end of a pandemic that changed how (and where) people gather. In B.C. alone, a number of local breweries have unfortunately had to shut down or sell in recent times. Twin Sails and Brave Brewing, while technically competitors on Port Moody’s Brewers Row, both recognized that joining forces was better than the alternative of going it alone. As Twin Sails co-founder Clay Allmin noted, “this consolidation allows us to push forward and scale our ability to offer high quality, locally crafted places and products to our community” rather than pulling back or merely trying to survive.
In other words, we chose to merge now so we can keep growing, innovating, and serving our community despite the challenges. By uniting, we’re proactively adapting to the changing landscape. Instead of four separate businesses each trying to weather the storm, we’ve formed one strong alliance that can navigate it together. We believe that by having each other’s backs, we can thrive vs. survive in any climate.
For the craft beer side in particular, this means Brave and Twin Sails can tackle industry challenges head-on. Higher ingredient costs? Larger combined brewing volume helps us buy grain and hops more efficiently. Tougher fight for shelf space? Two brands working in tandem have double the creativity and clout to stand out. Changing tastes? Together our brewers can experiment more and bring you fresh, innovative beers without fear. Where others might see risk, we see an opportunity to double down on what we love – making great beer and sharing it with the community.
And it’s not just about beer. By formally teaming up the breweries with TFN and Site B, we’re linking the worlds of work, play, and community like never before. “Our reason for being has always been about community and community thrives when the desire to buy, support and stay local is paramount,” Chris Peacock says. Port Moody has such an amazing concentration of talent and passion – why not connect it all? This merger lets us strengthen the ties between the coworking desks, the event stage, and the brewery taps. We’re tearing down silos and making it easier for people to eat, drink, work, and play all in one neighborhood hub.
Bottom line: Merging now is our way of saying we’re all-in for our community. Instead of slowing down, we’re speeding up. Instead of scaling back, we’re building up. We’re here to stay, and to grow together.
Stronger Together: What the Merger Means (Benefits)
By uniting TFN, Site B, Brave, and Twin Sails, we’re unlocking some awesome benefits for everyone – from our team members to our customers to the broader community. Here are a few of the big wins this merger brings:
-
✨ Shared Resources & Resilience: As a combined force, we can share and optimize resources in ways we never could separately. That means more efficient operations and the ability to weather tough times. For example, Twin Sails can utilize Brave’s excess brewing capacity to launch new beers, rather than investing in all-new equipment. In turn, Brave can lean on Twin Sails’ established production team to keep quality high. On the coworking/event side, TFN and Site B now share everything from physical space to staff expertise, making each event smoother and each workday more supported. Together, we have a stronger foundation – a safety net of tools, talent, and time – which ultimately makes each business more resilient.
-
🤝 Creative Synergy & Innovation: Bringing diverse minds under one umbrella creates a hotbed of creativity. With this merger, ideas can cross-pollinate easily between brewing, coworking, and events. We expect to see more innovative products and experiences now that our teams can riff off each other. In Clay’s words, this merger gives both breweries the capacity to “get back to their roots of creativity” and deliver something unique every time you visit. The same applies to TFN and Site B – free from the constant grind of doing it all alone, we can dream up cooler events, new programs, and big ideas that benefit you.
-
📈 Expanded Distribution & Reach: Twin Sails has an established sales and distribution network that can now help Brave’s beers reach more craft fans across the region. That means you might soon find Brave’s beers on tap or in stores beyond its current clientele – locally crafted goodness coming to more local liquor shelves near you. Conversely, Brave’s community connections and marketing flair will boost Twin Sails’ presence. Our combined social media reach and word-of-mouth in the community just doubled overnight. For our coworking and events, the merger amplifies our reach as well – we can tap into each other’s networks to promote members’ businesses, fill events, and bring in speakers/partners we wouldn’t have known otherwise. Together, we’re going to be everywhere our community needs us to be.
-
🌱 Greater Community Impact: Uniting means we can make an even bigger difference in our community. All of us have been involved in local charities, fundraisers, and support for small businesses – now we can synchronize those efforts and do more. With Brave’s community pledge, Twin Sails’ history of charitable events, Site B’s platform for non-profits (affordable space for fundraisers, markets, etc.), and TFN’s mentorship of entrepreneurs, we have a powerful combined toolkit for doing good. The merger opens the door to collaborative community projects: think fundraising beers where proceeds go to a local cause, or entrepreneurs white labelling their own beer for client give-aways, or events that start with a morning at TFN and end with a celebratory pint at Twin. We’ll also be pooling our resources to support local associations and sports teams. The ripple effect on the Tri-Cities area will be significant – when local businesses unite, the whole community wins.
-
🎉 Diversified Experiences (Work + Play): This merger creates a one-stop-shop for experiences in Port Moody. We’re blending our diverse atmospheres so you can seamlessly go from work to play. Imagine: you spend the day coworking at TFN, attend a market downstairs at Site B in the evening, then celebrate a productive day with friends over a limited-release stout at Twin Sails – all without leaving the block. With two brewery tasting rooms (Brave and Twin), a huge event space (Site B), and a creative work hub (TFN) now coordinating, there’s always something happening. Plus, having two brewery locations literally a skip and a hop apart means beer enthusiasts get variety: Brave offers the record-spinning, retro-cool vibe, while Twin Sails boasts that park-side patio chill with food trucks nearby. It’s the best of all worlds – whether you’re looking to focus quietly or cut loose, our unified community has you covered.
In short, by sharing what we each do best, we’re unlocking new possibilities that none of us could achieve alone. We’re so excited for you to experience these benefits in the coming weeks and months.
Keeping the Independence in Independence (Don’t Worry – Your Favorites Aren’t Changing)
We know how much you love each of these brands for their unique character. And that’s something we promise to protect. This merger isn’t about creating some monolithic, one-size-fits-all giant. It’s about unity through diversity. So, let’s clear the air:
-
Twin Sails will still be Twin Sails. Same laid-back coastal vibes, same innovative beers on tap, same logo on the door. When you walk into the Twin Sails tasting room, you’ll get the full experience you know and love – just with a few more friends behind the scenes helping make it even better. Twin Sails’ identity as an experimental, community-focused brewery isn’t going anywhere (except maybe into more pint glasses!).
-
Brave Brewing will still be Brave. The bravery-themed beer names, the focus on unsung heroes, the commitment to great classic beer styles with a twist – that stays. Brave’s tasting room will continue to celebrate courage and camaraderie, retaining its distinct personality (and yes, the retro record art and decor). Only now, Brave has a “big brother” in Twin Sails to collaborate with, meaning even more exciting brews could be on the horizon.
-
The Fountainhead Network remains TFN. Our coworking & media space will continue to operate independently day-to-day – members will still book the podcast studio as usual, network at Beer o’Clock, and find that familiar creative buzz in the air. TFN’s brand – as the Tri-Cities’ number one networking hub for creators – isn’t changing. What will change are some cool perks (like more events, collaborative discounts amongst our members and partners, and space upgrades) and the knowledge that TFN is now backed by a larger family that shares its mission.
-
Site B stays Site B. The event space will keep its name and its eclectic spirit. Public markets, art shows, corporate parties, weddings – all those events will still find a home at Site B, guided by the same team that knows how to throw a great shindig. You’ll still recognize the mural on the wall, the games area, the string lights – we’re not tampering with success. Site B will just have additional support and cross-promotion through its new sister spaces. Site B is one of the most unique venues around, and it’s only getting better.
In essence, each brand under our umbrella keeps its independence and distinct vibe. We cherish the differences between a cowork studio, an event hall, and a brewery – that’s the whole point! Post-merger, each location will continue to be operated by the same passionate people, just now with collaboration and coordination across the board. Think of it like your favorite band forming a supergroup: they’ll still play their greatest hits, but also come together for an epic jam session when you least expect it. We’re committed to honoring the trust our customers have in each brand. So if you’re a TFN member, a Site B regular, a Brave beer fan, or a Twin Sails loyalist – know that your place is still your place, now with bonus new friends.
One Community, Many Spaces: New Opportunities Ahead
What does this merger mean for you, our community? In one word: more. More places to connect, more events to enjoy, more support to lift each other up. We’re tearing down the walls (figuratively) between work, social, and creative life. Here are a few of the exciting opportunities this unified crew is already working on:
-
Coworking, but so much more: With TFN at the heart of Site B (and literally sharing space with Brave’s brewery), we’ve expanded the definition of “coworking.” Need a change of scenery from your desk? As of now, Brave’s taproom is open to TFN cowork members during the day as additional workspace – enjoy that comfy booth or big table before the first beers start pouring. Likewise, TFN members will get perks at Twin Sails down the street. We want entrepreneurs, remote workers, and freelancers to have inspiring places to work all over Brewers Row. Your office can be a desk, a couch, or a corner of the brewery with sunshine streaming in – you choose. This merger gives us the confidence and resources to create more coworking nooks around town and eventually in other communities too. Today Port Moody, tomorrow who knows? We dream of a network of coworking-friendly breweries and cafes that make “work from anywhere” truly local and fun.
-
Events & Experiences Galore: Remember when we said available event dates were getting few and far between? That’s because our spaces have been in high demand – so joining forces allows us to host even more events without turning groups away. With Site B, Brave, and Twin Sails coordinating, we can spread out events across three venues. For example, a community event could utilize either the Site B hall or Twin Sails’ and Braves breweries to accommodate more appropriate spaces depending on the event. If one tasting room is booked for a private event, the other might be open for a public celebration. Community takeovers, special theme nights, and fundraisers are now much easier to pull off with multiple spaces at our disposal. We’re not limited by four walls anymore – our community events can breathe and grow.
-
Cross-Pollination & Creativity: One of the coolest things we’ve discovered in the past several months (as we tested the waters of working together) is the power of crossover and collaboration. Now that we’re officially merged, expect to see more blurring of the lines in the best ways. Our brewers will collaborate on special beers inspired by Site B’s events. We also plan to brew beers specifically to support non-profit causes and community groups (imagine a charity beer where proceeds help a local charity holding an event at Site B). At the same time, TFN’s media team can help document and promote all this action – more podcasts, videos and social content highlighting Port Moody’s vibrant scene. And yes, the pro wrestling events will continue (Mike can’t resist) – perhaps with Twin Sails brewing a special “Smackdown Lager” or bring back Braves “Lucha Lager” for the occasion! The possibilities are endless when everyone’s at the table tossing ideas around. We want our community to feel these synergies: when you’re at one of our venues, you’re part of the energy of all of them.
-
Bigger Vision, Bigger Impact: Ultimately, coming together has given our founders a renewed energy to dream even bigger. As Mike Arboit puts it, “This merger will create the time, resources and confidence to grow the business the way we envision”. Already, plans are percolating to expand our co-work + event model to more communities beyond Port Moody. We love Brewers Row dearly, but why stop here? There are other neighborhoods filled with creative people craving connection – maybe in a year or two we’ll be announcing a new location, powered by the combined success of this team. We’re also developing new programs for social impact: mentorship for new entrepreneurs (with experienced folks from our breweries and cowork community as mentors), more robust internship opportunities for those wanting to learn about business, and partnerships with local schools or colleges to use our space and expertise. Erin Scarlett, TFN’s co-founder and networking guru, is spearheading a “community network ecosystem” (fancy name, casual vibe) among the four businesses to make sure we keep finding fresh ways to help our members and neighbors succeed together. The message is clear – we’re not treating this as the end goal, but rather the beginning of a bold new journey. Or as one of our partners is fond of saying, “dare to dream” – and we are daring to dream, together.
Meet the Founders behind the Vision
Behind this merger is a group of passionate people who genuinely believe in the power of community. Here’s a quick intro to our leadership team – the folks stirring the pot (or mash tun, or idea jar, as the case may be):
Clay Allmin – Twin Sails Co-Founder & Brewery CEO:
Clay is the driving force behind Twin Sails Brewing, a cornerstone of Port Moody’s Brewers Row since 2015. With a deep background in the restaurant and hospitality industry — including his leadership roles at acclaimed spots like Published on Main and Mama Said. His expertise in hospitality, paired with a passion for craft brewing, has positioned Twin Sails as one of BC’s most celebrated breweries, renowned for its inventive beers and approachable, community-centered vibe. As the new CEO overseeing brewery operations post-merger, Clay’s role is pivotal: ensuring that both Twin Sails and Brave Brewing continue to push creative boundaries, expand distribution, and deliver outstanding quality and innovation.
Erin Scarlett – TFN Co-Founder & Community Catalyst: Erin is the heart of TFN’s community. With a background in sales and a talent for bringing people together, she’s often the first warm welcome new members get. Erin guided TFN through thick and thin (including a pandemic pivot that would make most heads spin) and emerged as one of the Tri-Cities’ great networkers and cheerleaders for small business. She ensures that our merged group never loses sight of the people at the center of everything. If you see Erin at an event, she’ll likely be introducing someone to someone else, making connections on the fly – that’s her superpower.
Mike Arboit – TFN Co-Founder & Creative Strategist: Mike is Erin’s partner in life and business, and the driving force behind TFN’s media production and creative services. A seasoned media producer and longtime professional wrestler (yes, really!), Mike brings a flair for storytelling and a “let’s make it happen” attitude to the table. He’s produced countless podcasts and videos for our community and isn’t afraid to jump into the action — literally or figuratively — to get a project off the ground. Mike’s role in the new collective is to infuse creativity into every corner, while thinking outside the box, with a never say never attitude.
Chris Peacock & Amber Miller – Founders of Site B & Event Operations Leads: Chris Peacock (our resident man of mystery 🔍🍺) is a former tech startup founder (whose company scaled to over 1,000 employees), Chris helped build Site B to be a creative community center, blending events, coworking, and social connection. While Chris has now stepped back from day-to-day operations, his vision continues to guide the team as we carry the torch forward. Continuing to manage event operations is Amber Miller, a powerhouse of creativity and organization who ensures Site B continues to be Port Moody’s go-to venue for unforgettable experiences. Together, Chris and Amber represent the heart and soul of our event and community-building mission.
Greg Malpass – Majority Owner & Strategic Leader: Greg Malpass, best known as the founder of Traction on Demand, is not only a co-founder at Brave Brewing but now serves as the majority owner overseeing the merged group’s strategic direction. A serial entrepreneur and values-driven leader, Greg brings deep expertise in scaling businesses, building culture, and turning vision into action. While he may stay out of the day-to-day brewery bustle, his role is pivotal: ensuring that Brave, Twin Sails, Site B, and TFN operate with synergy, purpose, and long-term sustainability. Greg’s leadership fuels our commitment to innovation and community impact — guiding the ship while empowering each team to shine.
Together, Clay, Erin, Mike, Greg, and Amber, form a powerhouse crew of community-driven leaders — a true “dream team” blending creativity, strategy, hospitality, and heart. Each brings something unique: Erin’s unmatched networking magic, Mike’s media and creative spark, Amber’s award winning event strategies, Greg’s strategic leadership, and Clay’s hospitality-meets-brewing expertise. It’s the combination of these talents that makes this merger not just possible, but exciting.
We often joke that our meetings feel like a local Avengers assemble (minus the capes, plus extra coffee, beer, and probably a few wrestling analogies from Mike). What unites this diverse group is a shared love for community and a deep belief that business can — and should — be a force for good. You’ll see many of us regularly at the breweries, coworking space, or events, so don’t be shy: say hi, share your ideas, and help shape this next chapter with us.
Onward & Upward: A Message of Unity and Optimism
Standing here at this exciting crossroads, we feel an overwhelming sense of optimism and gratitude. This merger is a celebration of everything we’ve accomplished separately and a bold promise of what we will achieve together. It’s a testament to the power of community – that when people support each other, great things happen. We want to thank every coworking member, every beer-loving customer, every event attendee, and every team member who’s been part of our story so far. You inspired us to take this leap.
Our partnership is hitting the ground running with big dreams and concrete plans. In the coming weeks, you’ll start to see the first fruits of this merger: new collaborations, a unified event calendar, shared memberships/perks, and maybe even some co-branded merch. And that’s just the beginning.
We truly believe we are better together, and we’re committed to proving it. The Tri-Cities community means the world to us – it’s our home – and we’re now better equipped than ever to pour our energy back into it. Whether it’s helping a local startup get off the ground, giving people a place to unwind and connect, or putting Port Moody on the map as the place where innovation meets celebration, we’re here for it. And we’re not stopping here – our eyes are on the horizon for new opportunities, new programs, and expansion to other neighborhoods that could benefit from a little TFN/Site B/Brave/Twin magic.
In a time when some might see uncertainty, we choose to see possibility. This merger is our answer to the question, “What if we dared to be brave and do something different? What if we created a model where business isn’t a zero-sum game but a rising tide that lifts all boats?” We’re proud to say that day is here. As one united family of businesses, we are forging ahead with unity, hope, and forward momentum.
So here’s to new beginnings built on a strong foundation. Here’s to a partnership that grew out of adversity and turned into opportunity. Here’s to you – our community – for believing in each of us and now all of us together. The story of TFN, Site B, Brave, and Twin Sails is just getting started, and this chapter is already shaping up to be our best yet.
Thank you for being part of this journey. We can’t wait to raise a glass with you (literal or metaphorical) to celebrate this milestone and all the good times ahead. Stay tuned for more updates, and see you soon – whether it’s at a desk, an event, or a barstool. Cheers to a united community and an incredible future on the horizon!
earning.
